“ACCSR’s stakeholder research helped us to think about sustainability in a more holistic way.”

Stakeholder 360®

The Stakeholder 360® is a stakeholder research and engagement framework that improves clients’ strategic decision-making, develops effective CSR strategies and identifies opportunities to reduce socio-political risk.

It uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to assess and improve the quality of a company’s relationships with its stakeholders. The method produces network maps of stakeholder relationships and issues and can be used to establish the materiality of issues for strategy and reporting, build social capital in communities and identify opportunities for corporations to contribute effectively to sustainable development.

Developed by Dr Robert Boutilier and described in detail in his ground-breaking book, Stakeholder Politics (Greenleaf Publishing, UK, 2009), the Stakeholder 360® discovers the real issues in your stakeholder network and measures the social capital on the stakeholder network. Social capital is essential for success in stakeholder strategies because it comprises trust, shared goals, and motivation to collaborate.

Equipped with information on the topography of the community's political alliances and divisions, you can build sound stakeholder relationships and CSR or sustainable development strategy. Developed and tested in a five-year university research program on three continents, the Stakeholder 360® is designed for use in both the developed and developing world.

We have used the Stakeholder 360® in over 30 projects in Australia for a wide range of companies including Alcoa of Australia, Transurban, the Monash-City-Link-Westgate Upgrade Project, State Trustees, VicUrban, Hydro Tasmania, Port of Melbourne Corporation and others.
