"Finally we are moving beyond 'blue sky' optimism to 'down-to-earth' integration of sustainability principles into core organisational practices. My attendance at successive ACCSR conferences over the last three years has also been a journey through the evolution of sustainability in Australia. Coming to this conference feels like being on board the 'sustainability train'. I am enjoying this journey's next stages."

The practice of social responsibility stands on the brink of the biggest changes since CSR entered management practice in the 1970s. Business leaders the world round are now recognising that there can be no return to ‘business as usual’. But what will the new ‘normal’ look like?

CSR survived the Global Financial Crisis. The latter’s failure to address stakeholder and ethical issues have taken trust in business to new lows. In 2010, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the world’s leading standards body, will release a standard on what it means to be a socially responsible organisation.

Experts from 91 countries have been working intensively since 2004 to reach consensus on what "social responsibility" means, and what should go in the world's first standard on the subject.
The new standard has the potential to re-shape the CSR landscape.

Find out what the new standard will mean for your organisation and how responsible business practice has emerged from the crisis sharper and more focused than ever.

The conference will be officially opened by the Deputy Premier of Victoria and Attorney General, Hon. Rob Hulls

Minister Sherry said...
"Conferences such as this play an important role in encouraging stakeholders to discuss and debate the often complex issues raised by the deceptively simple three letters – C-S-R.

It is also an opportunity for leaders in the area, who are critical to driving this important evolution in business thinking, to get together and exchange cutting-edge thinking about the future direction of CSR in Australia ... Business and the financial markets do not, and cannot exist in a void, isolated from the communities and the environment in which they operate. While terms like “corporate social responsibility” and “responsible investment” may sound altruistic, they all boil down to sustainable business practices. The kind of business practices Australia needs right now."
